English Grammar

What is an adjective?

An adjective is a word that defines, qualifies or modifies the meaning of a noun, or more rarely of a pronoun. It expresses a quality or attribute of the word it qualifies. There are two main categories of adjectives:

1. -Comparison

Big, bigger, biggest

2. Descriptive adjectives, which can be either qualifying adjectives or classifying adjectives.

31. Common and proper nouns

The important thing to remember is that common nouns are general names. Thus, they are not capitalized unless they begin a sentence or are part of a title. Proper nouns, those that name specific things, do require capitalization.
