1. اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
96|1|Read: In the Name of your Lord who created.
2. خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
96|2|Created man from a clot.
3. اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
96|3|Read: And your Lord is the Most Generous.
4. الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
96|4|He who taught by the pen.
5. عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
96|5|Taught man what he never knew.
6. كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَى
96|6|In fact, man oversteps all bounds.
7. أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى
96|7|When he considers himself exempt.
8. إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى
96|8|But to your Lord is the return.
9. أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى
96|9|Have you seen him who prevents?
10. عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّى
96|10|A servant when he prays?
11. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى
96|11|Do you think he is upon guidance?
12. أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى
96|12|Or advocates righteousness?
13. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى
96|13|Do you see how he disbelieved and turned away?
14. أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى
96|14|Does he not know that God sees?
15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
96|15|No. If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock.
16. نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
96|16|A deceitful, sinful forelock.
17. فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ
96|17|Let him call on his gang.
18. سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
96|18|We will call the Guards.
19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ
96|19|No, do not obey him; but kneel down, and come near.
